Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist, GS-1550-13 position: Degree: Bachelors degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelors degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Administering classified and unclassified network servers to support analytical, knowledge-management, and web-related Agency applications requiring expert-level system oversight; 2) Preparing detailed system specifications, test plans, and interface requirements to support system integration and acquisition actions; 3) Applying advanced computer science principles such as algorithms, data structures, programming concepts, and architectures to assess and resolve mission-critical application issues; 4) Designing analytical and servicesweb-based system applications to support Agency operational and analytical missions; And 5) Providing high-level technical guidance to leadership on system feasibility, technology options, and risk assessments. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this grade- (GS-13), you must meet the qualification requirement using the basic requirement and experience alone- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
